The MTR Leader Residency exists to recruit, train, and support effective leaders from among MTR alumni for service in MTR partner schools and/or Memphis school districts (SCS or ASD). MTR has partnered with New Leaders to create a two-year leadership training program.
Year One includes participation within the MTR Leader Residency cohort while remaining as a classroom teacher (or other current position) and participating within NL's Emerging Leaders program. The Emerging Leaders program includes intensive study and job-embedded coaching so that classroom teachers can gain knowledge and experience in leading teacher teams.
For Leader Residents who qualify, Year Two includes participation within the MTR Leader Residency cohort while serving as a Resident Principal within NL's Aspiring Principal program. NL's Aspiring Principal program is a year-long principal internship along with intensive study in which graduates obtain an administrator license in the state of Tennessee and are equipped to become a school leader. Leaders then continue to receive coaching from NL and MTR as they begin their leadership career.
