Indicators

MTR works with principals to place graduates into public and charter schools in the six MTR partner neighborhoods. This ensures a steady stream of high-potential teacher applicants into these economically-disadvantaged neighborhoods. In order to serve students well and promote school stability, graduates commit to staying in their initial placement for three consecutive years after their residency year, and MTR takes resident preferences into account when finding them jobs. Typically, just over half of each graduating class is still teaching or working in some capacity in Memphis high-need education eight years after graduation. This length of service in compares very favorably to statistics on the average new teacher hire in Memphis.
