Contact information

The University of Tennessee-Knoxville's teacher education offers multiple, diverse programs to become a licensed teacher. We operate teacher licensure programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our undergraduate Early Childhood program, our graduate-level Job-Embedded programs, and our Literacy Specialist program are 100% online, and attract students from across the state of Tennessee. The Job-Embedded programs are accessible to noncertified staff and community members who hold a Bachelor's degree. We also offer unique and innovative Grow Your Own pathways towards teacher licensure, which allow aspiring teachers to work (and earn salaries and benefits) as Educational Assistants while completing requirements to become licensed teachers. Our diverse programs allow multiple pathways into the classroom, allowing both traditional and non-traditional students the opportunity to become a teacher. In addition to our teacher education programs, we also offer licensure in school social work, school counseling, school psychology, audiology and speech pathology, and instructional leadership. Our programs prepare educators to effectively use educational technology, to integrate trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices into instruction, and to meaningfully and accurately assess and support student learning. Our students graduate with the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be effective 21st century educators and school services personnel.
